What is this?
=============

This directory contains patchsets with IEEE 1394 updates for released
kernels. You may want to use these patches if you experience problems
related to IEEE 1394 drivers and want to fix them without a full kernel
update. You may also use them to help testing current IEEE 1394 drivers.

Although these drivers are fully functional and stable to the best of my
knowledge, they are less well tested than what is included in Linux
releases. Use at your own risk.

How to apply?
=============

Either apply as a single patch:

 - download the file ${version}/${version}_ieee1394_v???.patch.bz2
 - change into the Linux source directory
 - apply the patch:
   $ bzcat ~/${version}_ieee1394_v???.patch.bz2 | patch -p1
 - build and install the kernel modules (and the kernel if necessary)

Or use quilt:

 - download the file ${version}/patches.tar.bz2
 - change into the Linux source directory
 - untar the quilt tree:
   $ tar xfj ~/patches.tar.bz2
   (untar it elsewhere if you are using several quilt trees)
 - apply the patches:
   $ quilt push -a
 - build and install the kernel modules (and the kernel if necessary)

How to remove again?
====================

As a single patch:
$ bzcat ~/${version}_ieee1394_v??.patch.bz2 | patch -p1 -R

Or with quilt:
$ quilt pop -a

Then build and install the modules again (and the kernel if necessary).
To be able to unapply patches this way, keep a copy of the patch file.
Patches at this web site may vanish anytime when I update it.

Other kernels
=============

Feel free to ask me for patchkits for other kernels. If you need
patches against a distribution kernel, I would need an URL to download
the distributor's kernel sources.

Also look into the discontinued directory for patches for other kernels.
I don't update those patches anymore though.

if there is something I could do to make them more useful:
